About the event:
In recent years a growing number of cities have reduced or eliminated “parking minimums”, with positive effect. In Minneapolis, for example, the resident population has increased by 17% while “vehicle miles traveled” have fallen 2% since the law changed in 2021. It’s not just cities, bills are now being introduced at state and federal levels.. This webinar will discuss the benefits of parking reform and how individuals and organizations can engage the issue. Panelists will include Minnesota State Senator Omar Fateh, author of the “MN People over Parking Act,” U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (MN)) – co-sponsor of the Congressional Bill “HR-3145 People Over Parking Act of 2023,” and Tony Jordan of the Parking Reform Network

How to Get There by Transit: RTS Routes 21 (Stop: Dewey & Bloss) and 22 (Stop: Lake & Phelps)
Advocacy Opportunity: This public meeting will present a draft design of a street improvement plan along Dewey Avenue (Felix/Bloss St. to Locust St.) and Emerson Street (Sherman St. to Fulton Ave.).
Improvements include: new curbs, sidewalks, curb ramps, street lighting, tree plantings, and other streetscape improvements. Recommendations for bike and pedestrian safety improvements will also be presented.
Dewey Avenue is included on the city’s Bike Spine Network (a ‘Spine’ is a seamless, high-comfort, and protected bike infrastructure that accommodates riders of all ages and abilities) outlined in its Active Transportation Plan.
This is a great opportunity for community advocates to show up and voice your support for the construction of protected bike infrastructure, or a Bike Spine, on Dewey Avenue.

Advocacy Opportunity: This public meeting will present a draft design of a street improvement plan along Dewey Avenue (Felix/Bloss St. to Locust St.) and Emerson Street (Sherman St. to Fulton Ave.).
Improvements include: spot curb and sidewalk replacement, upgrades/installation of sidewalk curb ramps, replacement of traffic pavement markings, and adjustment and repair of manholes, catch basins, and water valve castings. Recommendations for lane reductions and parking regulation changes on Culver south of Norris Drive, bicycle accommodations, curb bump-outs at select locations, and other safety improvement throughout the project corridors. A pedestrian refuge island is proposed for the midblock crosswalk on Monroe at Werner Park.
This is a great opportunity for community advocates to show up and voice your support for improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure along Culver and University!
